I'm A Lumberjack

And I'm Okay.

Today was tree cutting down day. Four Oak, one Elm and a Birch at the neighbors which had forked into two trees. We made it without any home or people damage. We did kill the old faithful Wen chainsaw and had to replace it mid way through the felling of the Birch. We picked up a self oiling, tool-less tension adjusting Homelite 14-inch Electric. It does well cutting vertically but when turning on it's side, the blade tends to come out of the track.

The kids all pittched in bringing all the braches to the street. A great job all around.

And it wouldn't have been possible without this video from the Progressive Farmer.

No Respect For The Dad

You know how when you are waiting a long time for your food at a restaurant and you wait and you wait and you wait and when you finally can't wait any longer and you decide to go to the bathroom the waiter shows up with your food? So this morning I'm waiting on the phone with DirecTV after I hook up a new DVR that they sent last week. It is replacing an existing unit. I'm waiting for several minutes and I walk in the basement. I walk by my PC and step on something that doesn't feel right.

Fortunately, I'm in my slippers. I look down and one of the cats apparently didn't make it to the litter box. I take my slipper off and head to the cleaning supply cabinet when what happens? Yep, the DirecTV rep comes on the line. If you don't have DirecTV, when you get a new unit, you have to call in and have the activate the receiver. You then try your local channels and other channels to make sure all is well.

After it finished, I run back downstairs with the Woolite and hope that no one else has "found" the gift from Shadow and Scamper. No one has and the cleanup is relatively painless.

What a great way to start my day.

Cool Off Your Equipment

I found this easy to do TV stand upgrade article at MaximumPC. It can get pretty warm inside as there is little to no circulation. This article shows how to install an exhaust fan inside the TV stand to keep the components inside the from frying.

MaximumPC includes all the necessary part and provides an illustrated, step by step method of adding a fan to any TV stand.

Try it, you'll be glad you did.
