What A Difference A Year Makes

About this time last year, I was on the phone with my insurance agent as I had been rear ended by a John Deere earth mover that was moving snow at a local strip mall as I was pulling out of the parking lot.  I also spoke with the owner of the snow removal company and was lied to about being taken care of.

When all was said and done, I was low-balled and sent a check by the owner for a quarter of the repair cost.  In endorsing the check, I also absolved the company, the sub-contracter and the strip mall of any further litigation.  Fortunately, I have a great mechanic who pulled out the damage a great deal.  Over the course of the summer, I pulled out more of the damage and repainted the spot.

The car drives fine.  It looks good enough.  As far as I'm concerned, a car is a way to get from point A to point B. But the being lied to really had me ticked off.  The owner of this company didn't want to go through the insurance and then when I did and sent two estimates, he refused to return phone calls and I only dealt his insurance agent.

With the bad economy and all the businesses going under, I only wish one company should go under and all the rest rise from the ashes.  I know it's not the Christmas Spirit way of feeling but I believe evil doers should fall victim to misfortune.  You reap what you sow.

This year, we have had an ice storm.  I have not ventured out of the house and will not do so unless absolutely necessary.

Happy Christmas Eve

This is for those who want to visit the Ghost of Christmas Past.

One Year Ago today

It Was 40 Years Ago Today

October 12, 1969... A day that lives in Beatles infamy.  It was this day that Russ Gibb, a DJ on Detroit's WKNR-FM took a phone call that would shake the world and continues to do so, for some people, to this day.

It was the day the world learned that Paul Was Dead.

The clues were rampant.  Backward audio and photographic evidence were all some people needed.

More background on the story here.

In case anyone still believes Paul is truly dead, he answered that question in an interview with Chris Farley on SNL.  Sadly, Farley is indeed dead.

Forty Years Ago Today

It was forty years ago, July 20, 2009, that man first set foot on the moon.  NASA has made a number of videos available on YouTube.

Happy Easter

While you're enjoying your candy, don't forget the real meaning behind Easter.

Ouch

My Memories

What I remember most from September 11th, 2001 was after I got home from work my family and I walked to a local park. My son was five and my daughter two. The sky was silent and still as all air traffic had been grounded. I had never seen it that way in my lifetime and imagine no one else had either. The birds reclaimed the skies as they hadn't done since man invented the airplane. I saw the contrails of Airforce One in the southern sky on the drive home. It was the only plane flying at that time, so it had to be. God Bless all those innocent souls who lost their lives that morning. God Bless their families I thought as I walked with mine.

The New York Giants had played on Monday Night Football the previous evening. To my knowledge, it has never been reported, but in my heart I believe that insignificant football game saved many people that day. People who would have normally arrived at work before 8:00am were likely late because they were up past midnight watching the Giants. I just wish there were 3000 more Giant fans who were late to work that morning.
